Yup, I blame the Alien vs Predators movies and their phallic shaped monsters running around killing people, but every time I saw a penis for the longest time... that was what I thought about. A weird alien type creature that shouldn't even be a body part. It just looked weird and disturbing to me, and the presence or absence of a skin flap would have changed nothing.

Now that I'm married and had the time to build a connection with that body part I don't feel so weirded out by it, but I just think men are more connected to the image of the penis more than women since men generally are visual creatures and the penis is apart of their own self image. Whereas a person like me who is a female who grew up with two sisters and no brothers, my first exposure to male genitalia was a gang rape scene in The Butterfly Effect.. and then subsequent phallic shaped aliens in a monster movie... So after that, the penis weirded me out.

I can see how you would feel that way, I think my feelings and experiences are a little different though. Although I can see how other people feel on this could be a really interesting subject.

I had seen plenty of artistic nude penis's, or presented in a very scientific or medal manner growing up, and so I was exposed to penises in very neutral way. I just think they look ugly, and a bit weird, even though I have spent a great deal of time with male partners. I like what they do, I just don't like how they look. Which is why I have no issues with my partners.

However random penis pictures, I can be grossed out by. I really hate coming across photo's on the Internet of random shots of men with their penises erect that they have just taking themselves in unlikely to be flattering angles.

I think your right about men being more connected to the image. Since you do get some men who think that sending "dick pics" to people is going to impress them. Even though for me that is the worse part they could possibly show off, and many other women tend to not be impressed by it either. I know to the man they probably think they are showing an "asset" but I am just like no... I am probably going to like many other things much more than that...

I find nothing wrong with the male form. Nothing creeps me out about it or anything. There was a time I did crave a more realistic dildo, but I think that's because a lot of my fantasies centered around humans. Realistic/Fantasy Dildos
I remember going online to look at dildos when I was 18 (over 10 years ago!) and being really turned off by all the "realistic" dildos available. Like, a whole screen of orange-y, pink-y things with red heads. I eventually got a glass one and an abstract shape purple one, but they did take a while to find since I would foray into "looking at dildos" and just get met with a bunch of turn offs.

There are a few specific "realistic" ones I like and have almost bought. I like the look of BR's Malus (too bad I found out about it right after they closed in early November and it's also a little too girthy for me) and I even like the "natural" coloring on EE's Halfling (which is also too girthy for me!).

I think the "market dominated by men" thing is partly true. In my opinion, most women would want something colorful, sparkly and/or luxury looking toy if given the option (like an expensive makeup compact or something). I think it's easier now than before to find these kinds of things, so things are changing and different preferences are becoming known, especially with the internet. I feel like it used to be you could either get realistic or abstract. I feel like there is more in between now, and even the abstract ones are better. I think it would have been hard to find a dildo that looks like a gem or a nebula in it's coloring circa 10 years ago, for example. Maybe you could get a plain pink or purple thing. But, maybe I'm just more sex savvy and internet savvy now. I definitely spend more time than ever looking at these things.

So here's my stream on consciousness thinking about the model and if I should get it or not.

I had a small Echo in medium firmness and didn't get anything out of it. I didn't feel the ring, and honestly it didn't feel like much at all. I merely like my small Nox in medium, but I think I would like it in firm better and now that I've tried TTC's Alto, I think one central swell like Echo has would be better than Nox's weird double swells. Small Echo is also really narrow. Small Nox is girthier than it, and I've since taken girthier. Medium Echo would be the next step up, and medium Nox would be a little bigger than that (and, I think, too big for me). It makes me happy to hear the ring gets easier to feel in larger sizes. That was my main draw to it when I had the small. So I think I would like a medium Echo in firm, but I could end up not liking it. I've had such horrible luck with new purchases lately. The odds are 1:3 so far. :-(
