Oral Play - Desensitizing a gag reflex

Okay, so, being completely honest here: I have an oral kink. Like, that is my thing. I love cock worship. Unfortunately, I also have an extremely sensitive gag reflex. So, Bad Dragon community, I'm coming to you for help. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you desensitize it? Tell me about your method, how quickly did it work? How often did you have to do it?

I want to get to the point where I can take my boyfriend completely without tearing up and gagging on him.

I have a bad reflex as well and try as I might, I have issues as well. However, I have a great partner that's always told me "Sweetheart, you're gagging on me. That's the sweetest thing a guy can ask for. You're basically saying you'd rather have my cock in your mouth than breathe air."

Doesn't help my gag reflex at all, but it does make my day a lot better.

The only thing that has lessened my gag reflex a bit was developing an eating disorder, which...I don't recommend :misc4:

Some people have their uvula removed, in order to try to stop snoring (the little 'punching bag' tissue at the back of your throat.)

I wouldn't suggest it (it apparently doesn't improve snoring problems) but I wonder if it would help with your gag reflex.

......Please don't remove a body part for the sake of better blowjobs. How shitty would it be to die of something completely avoidable, just because you removed the part that was supposed to initiate a potentially life-saving reflex?

@ OP: The only working way I know to get better at that is practise practise practise. Train with a toy and lots of patience, a little bit every other day, and soon you'll see improvement -- It's all about learning to relax your body and not panic, that just takes time.
Breathing through your nose and laying on your back with your head hanging off the edge of the bed helps in my experience, the latter aligns your mouth and throat in more of a straight line. You probably saw that kind of pose in porn now and then?

Basically this. Learn it instead of forcing it otherwise you will just harm yourself.

@MachineDoll Omg that's so sweet <3 <3 Relationship goals right there!!

@Padre Oh no no do not worry, I'm not going to remove anything like that. Ngl that made me shudder in a not-so-nice way.

I def try to practice as much as I can, but bc it's so sensitive, I see no real improvement. I've even tried those numbing throat sprays, and it just makes it uncomfortable for me. I'll try the bed trick during practice, but I'd rather not actively use that with my boyfriend. I e never seen that before, though, so it sounds like a really good idea!!

Sadly I can't tell you more than have patience, it's a slow progress to unlearn what took millennia of evolution to work the way it does :')

Have you tried it with your boyfriend yet? Telling him to go slow and shallow as possible? Sometimes it's easier to just lie down and 100% focus on relaxing, instead of having to focus on moving the toy too.

As said, practice can improve it, at least in my experience. Going slow, finding the good positions and times... First times I couldn't go to the back part of the tongue, now is rather easy keep the shaft on the throat without almost retching (some days are better than others).
I've heard that pressing your left thumb with your hand helps to reduce the gag reflex, but I don't know if it a trick to distracting yourself or if has some scientific base (I think it does not work with me).

Brushing your teeth! Hear me out...
Whenever you brush your teeth, brush on your tongue and brush as far back as you can on it until you start to gag, stop and just let the brush sit there for a bit. Eventually you'll start to I guess desensitize yourself to the sensation and it'll be easier to start practicing with something more phallic haha.
