This day is going downhill FAST. I was doing some finishing touches on my project car's audio system and cleaning her up for a couple days of daily style driving to test her out, and I learned my CV axle is shot. Not a HUGE deal, but a little depressing to learn my driveaxle is ready to snap right before I thought she was gonna be good to go.

Now, I've just learned that there is a 15 acre and spreading wildfire in the area maybe a couple miles away. I live in a very heavily wooded area, with easily a quarter mile or more between homes and nothing but trees in the middle.

If I have to leave, do I take the fast car with a half broken driveaxle, or the snail car with decent axles?

My husband ordered one of those. It's pretty neat! If you go for it though, be absolutely sure your PC is capable of running it. You need a really, really top-of-the-line rig to run one. My husband spent about 4K upgrading his PC for it. Mac won't run it at all.

Yeah it can run it for sure. Got the max result in the green on SteamVR Performance Test.
HTC seems to have fucked badly with the launch tho.

I would love to get one of those myself! Right now I'm just waiting to see where it goes first. Seems it needs a bit more attention from AAA developers (not saying I expect to see that kind of gameplay on a VR, just talking about some particular studios getting involved). That and holy cow that thing is not cheap XD some day though, some day. In the meantime I recently bought my gaming partner an Xbox One pretty cheaply on eBay so we can play some Halo and stuff together ^^ I waited patiently for the prices to go down and it definitely paid off. Hopefully I can do the same with the Vive :mystery:

This week is going to suck...

Have to drive 4 hours (one way) tomorrow for a medical appointment. The next day I have another medical appointment, though much closer. The day after that I have to drive 2 hours (one way) to see the dentist about this tooth that has been giving me hell for about 2 weeks. I actually lost the filling a while back.

I am extremely dental phobic, but at least I managed to find an office with primarily female staff, so that should help.

I keep wondering if I'm an annoying personality. I can get a bit energetic sometimes, but I never mean no harm. I'm still relatively new to BD (three weeks-ish?) and I love to make new friends and get to know other people, but I'm afraid that I'll drive them away or annoy them.

I went out to karaoke tonight. Didn't sing myself, but still had a good time. Oh what a good time I can have when I have good friends to spend time with.

My studying is going well. I finished chapter 6 today, which covered BIOS and CMOS. Each chapter has a 10 question quiz at the end and I'm no longer missing any questions. I'm having a lot more fun with this than I was expecting. Chapter 7 covers the motherboard. There are 28 chapters in the book and I'm trying to cover at least one day where possible, so I'll probably start 7 tonight and then try and finish it up tomorrow after work.

I've also done some comparing with the cost and specs of what it'd cost me to build a fairly basic desktop for my dad or if it'd be better to buy an already-made desktop with roughly similar specs. It doesn't help that the tower for his desktop is in the worst place for it (best place for him though and he doesn't care), so it's not getting proper air circulation to cool it and with three cats and a dog, it's probably jammed full of hair and dust. He's had it at least 4 years (might be 5 or so, actually), and it hasn't been cleaned out once. I do mine every few weeks. So I could haul it out of its corner and give it a good cleaning and see what happens. The trouble is that the shut downs are random and they aren't accompanied by any error message to tell me (or him) what the problem might be and there aren't any beeps to indicated something (the RAM, for example) has been cooked. So in actuality, I don't know what the problem could be. The restarts being random and without any sort of error message makes me think it's in part a heat issue, but who knows. By the time I've heard him shouting and swearing at it because it's restarted on him (he's using the term "crashed"), the message is already gone, and he's not observant enough to make note of any message that might have popped up. He's also cheap as shit, so he doesn't want to spend any of his own money. Tough shit, because my mom said she's not buying him another one. If I build one, I'll be expecting reimbursement for the components and then pay for the hours it'll take me to build the thing. If it's a ready-made one, I can just use his card and buy it for him. Ugh, it's frustrating being the one at home that everyone comes to with tech questions and issues.

I have so much work to do, but instead I'm reading articles on how to move into a smaller apartment. Whoops?

But seriously though, I can't find the answer for how to get a couch that is proportionally large enough (yet small enough) to fit your needs and your space... :psyduck:
