I think that those theories are sound. BD has grown a LOT over the years, and that means that certain things have to be streamlined. I miss getting the discount codes, but I would happily trade the few things I miss about the 'good ole days' for how many more options there are now and how much faster the customs are (I will never miss six month waits for 1 toy). Plus, I feel like I see way nicer drops these days than I did a few years back, so I'm much more enthusiastic about ready-mades.

Maybe in the future they will exchange the con-codes for a loyalties club type thing? Like sign up for a newsletter that has exclusive discounts twice a year like some other artisan companies do. I've signed up for a couple groups like that for companies that make things like silicone mermaid costumes or ren faire gear and it's gotten me to spend more money than I probably save.

Or maybe they just aren't doing a sale on customs because they're going to do a sale for the end of year on specialty color customs and I'm way overthinking this haha.

Well there has been an end of year sale on the past year's special colors in the last years. Only a discount on the colors though, not on the toys themselves. 15% on toys however is going to save you way more money than 50% on coloration. Prices for colors are peanuts compared to the price of the toys themselves.

True, true. I’ll probably order something either way, especially because I really want a toy in either cosmic nebula or Amazon princess. And I’m inpatient since I’m not sure when they’d do another x% off sale.

Since there's no toy I'm dying for rn, I may take this time to get a couple of keychains and some more teenies since with the discount they're about $16 which is a much more reasonal price but whatever. But I still need to wait for my paycheck coming soon.

Yup, looks like I was mistaken about last year's boxing day sale. I suspect they don't want a ton of new custom orders to come flooding in while they're still working through their BF backlog.

Them silently changing the wording of the banner after being asked about the discrepancy still leaves some space for speculation.

Maybe they originally had planned to include a discount on custom toys too, but the apparently still huge (maybe unexpected by BD) backlog on BF orders, as Tempest just pointed out, made them scrap that part of the sale later - and they then simply forgot to modify the already-created promo materials like the banner.

If that was their plan then it’s working for everything except those purple zaratans and konas. There have been a couple new guys here and there that I’ve noticed; if there’s going to be a drop my bet is on tomorrow afternoon. But I’m not holding my breath. The pouring department is probably busy enough trying to get all of our holiday orders made.

The Easter Marble isn't a color that can be ordered, unfortunately.
What they will let you do is pick up to three of the five colors they used (depending on the size and model of the toy) and make you a custom marble, but that's the best they will offer.

Plus they probably don't want to slam their staff with a whole bunch of new custom orders, with the 'year end' sale right around the corner. They may also be on limited holiday hours, or have staff on vacation.

I'm not shopping, but I've been looking at Clearance and the current number of toys on inventory right now is 271. That's the lowest I've ever seen lmao

Now I'm curious, has inventory ever gone down to zero before?

I’ve never seen it at zero, but I remember a couple times back when BD was smaller when there would only be a handful of toys available. These days I feel like there’s always a lot of toys in stock.

But certainly not at full price.
Next time they do a -15% or higher sale that includes customs, I'm in.
Need some incentive for the 25% value added tax and import duty... (and the freaking high shipping costs)
